Dawgs Head Into Offseason

New Leadership Elected To Ice Dawgs

The Ice Dawgs head into their offseason during the midst of the NHL Playoffs. New leadership is now in place to keep the team moving forward into its Junior year. Please visit our Contact Us page in order to contact the new student-led Officer Board.

Another season full of firsts was expected from the Ice Dawgs and the results were truly astounding. The Dawgs would like to note a few of these accomplishments

-The team's first SECHC wins against both Ole Miss and rival LSU.
-Capacity crowds at all home games at the Bancorpsouth Arena that constantly remained in the 2,500-3,100 range for a grand total of approximately 10,000 fans at all 4 home games.
-Games against new non-SECHC opponents: Life University and Louisiana-Lafayette
-The Dawgs' victory over Ole Miss to win the first ever Egg Cup Trophy.

Again, without all of you, our fans, we could not exist. There is no greater pride than skating in front of thousands of our supporters and hearing their cheers drown out the goal horn. We look forward to every new season, both on the road and at home in Tupelo.

THANK YOU ICE DAWG NATION

Dawgs Fall Too Short Too Soon

Dawgs have trouble again in Pelham as the SECHC season comes to a close.

During the 2nd Annual SECHC Tournament, the Dawgs were faced with Ole Miss and LSU, yet again.

Friday morning, the Dawgs faced a shorter-rostered Ole Miss team but came out extremely flat and unresponsive. As 5 goals were quickly surrendered by MSU, the Dawgs were unable to find enough steam to rebound from such a surprise. The score ended in a 10-4 defeat at the hands of a much improved Ole Miss squad.

Saturday morning, the Dawgs were, again, faced with playing LSU as the Tigers had lost their previous matchup against Vanderbilt. Through a very physical game, the Dawgs were never able to take the lead against the Tigers as the score tilted back-and-forth in momentum. Although the game was played with great emotion and determination, the Dawgs again came up short against a familiar opponent, losing the game 9-7.

The Dawgs travel to Lafayette, Louisiana to end the ACHA's D3 season against the La-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns. Wish the boys luck!

On The Fly Updates

Ice Dawgs experience road-game troubles as the season nears its end

During the Dawgs' road trip to Pelham, AL, the team was unable to come home with a win on Jan. 15 and 16.

On Jan. 15, the Dawgs were short on manpower with 3 players serving recent suspensions; however, the Dawgs jumped out to a 4-1 lead thanks to a hat-trick by R.C. Martin, two of which were short-handed goals, and another short-handed goal by Alex Palmer. Unfortunately, the Dawgs were unable to keep up with the fast and steady pace as the manpower shortage eventually gave way to an unrelenting Alabama offense, ending the game 4-10.

Jan. 16, the Dawgs felt they would be better off with a full bench; however, endless penalties and injuries took the team off its guard and, with the exception of an early 2nd period goal by Jordan Troisi, Alabama ran away with the game ending in a 4-12 MSU defeat. The Dawgs were proud to say that there was no giving up, as the final 3 MSU goals were scored early in the 3rd period.
